The Sorrow of War: A Novel of North Vietnam

The Sorrow of War: A Novel of North Vietnam - Bao Ninh An outstanding book from the North Vietnamese perspective during the American war and after. I teach this with O'Brien's "The Things They Carried" and the similarities are many, yet they are clearly different books. Ninh has a challenging writing style to get into, but once you are in it is easy to meander through his memories and time changes. This book was banned in Vietnam when it came out, but still became very popular. Just an excellent novel.
